Abstract

Entrepreneurship has been established to be a lifeline of economic growth and development in
the developed and developing economy. The objective of this research is to determine some
elements that give an explanationon the variations among secondary students embark on
intentions. The research also tests the applicability theory of planned behaviour whether if the
theory can explainsecondary school student‟s entrepreneurial intentions in Bauchi State.
Design/methodology/approach: A cross-sectional survey was carried out via a sample of 345
from 60 secondary schools in Bauchi State. The instrument used is self-administered
questionnaires for data the collection. The goal is to measure conceptual model of
entrepreneurial intention via structural equations.
Findings: The results revealed that entrepreneurial intentions of secondary students were
determine by entrepreneurship education, perceived desirability self-employed and
entrepreneurship awareness. The awareness of financial assistance had moderating effects on
previous entrepreneurial experience and perceived desirability self-employed. Though, the
presumption of start-up business in the future remains self-determining of the fact of whether a
person had past experienced involvement with entrepreneurship-related activities and neither do
age has any moderating effect on EI.
Originality/value: This study is among thepioneer that provided an empirical evidence of the
moderating role of age and awareness of financial assistance in the relationship between EE,
PEE, PDSE and EAW and students‟ EIs. The outcomes also provide a significant prove to
extend that entrepreneurship education particularly in secondary school learners because these
students are about to expression their intention on the professional career choices. This remains a
facts that whether the students propose to continue with higher education or to become selfemployed. Consequently this research contributes on the existing knowledge on the attributes
that prompts entrepreneurial intention among secondary school students in Nigeria particularly in
Bauchi State
