Abstract

Background: academic stress is a mental distress with respect to some anticipated frustration
associated with academic failure. Students have to face many academic demands; if demands
are not fulfilled they can suffer from many physical and mental problems.
Objective: to assess the level of academic stress among nursing students.
Methodology: a descriptive research design as used to assess the level of academic stress
among nursing students. A total of 80 nursing students were taken from the selected nursing
college by using simple random sampling technique.
Results: it was found that 66.2% nursing students have slight stress, 16.2% nsg students have
moderate stress, 13.7% have high stress and 3.75% students have extreme stress. The
relationship of level of academic stress with selected socio-demographic variables i.e. class,
occupation of father, attitude towards nursing were found to be statistically significant.
Conclusion: more than half i.e. 66.2% nursing students have slight stress so college
administration needs to organize counseling services for nursing students.
